Good News: NCC Suspends Increase of Data Price

The Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday announced the immediate suspension of the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators. 
The new rate, which would have led to price increase in data for some Nigerians, was scheduled to take effect from December 1. 
The NCC said the decision is to allow for further consultation. 
The NCC’s decision comes a few hours after the Senate ordered a stop to the planned increase.

Nigerian Communications Commission 
NCC suspends directive on data segment price floor. Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction. 
The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country. 
The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria. 
Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016. 
The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants. 
The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB. 
In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction. 
The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators. 
This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse. 
Before the new suspended price floor of N0.90k/MB, the industry average for dominant operators including MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, EMTS Limited (Etisalat) and Airtel Nigeria Limited was N0.53k/MB. 
Etisalat offered (N0.94k/MB), Airtel (N0.52k/MB), MTN (N0.45k/MB) and Globacom (N0.21k/MB). 
The smaller operators/ new entrants charge the following: Smile Communications N0.84k/MB, Spectranet N0.58k/MB and NATCOMS (NTEL) N0.72k/MB. 
The NCC as a responsive agency of government takes into consideration the feelings of the consumers and so decided to suspend the new price floor.

ROM Manager is a must have app for Android root users who regularly tinker with their device’s ROMs. The app lets you flash your recovery to the latest and greatest ClockworkMod recovery. Besides that, it will help you to manage and install your custom ROMs and backing-up your current ROM. 
It has both free and premium versions. The paid premium version includes additional features like automatic backups, web connect and incremental ROM downloads. 
 
How to Install a custom ROM using ROM Manager 
 
1. First, download and install the <a href='https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager'>ROM Manager app</a> on your Android phone. 
2. After installing, launch the app and from the main menu, tap on ‘Flash ClockworkMod Recovery’.

3. You’ll be asked to confirm your phone’s model. Select your phone’s model and your phone will reboot and flashing CWM.

5. Give the backup a name and then click

6. You will be asked to allow ROM Manager superuser access, tap on ‘Allow’ to grant this. The backup process can take a little while, so make sure you aren’t expecting any important calls. 
7. Once done, reopen ROM Manager and tap on ‘Install ROM from SD card’

8. Find the folder where you placed the .zip file in. A box should pop up with three options like the image shown below.

Once the phone has booted up, you will be prompted to enter your Google account details.

But according to some sources, the Opera browser may be getting ready to apply some restrictions in this mode, preventing access to torrent sites and other content in a way to prevent the misuse of this functionality. 
This path will start as an agreement with the telecommunications regulator, the Roskomnadzor, which seek thus able to block the use of Turbo widely by Russian users. 
Opera admitted the possibility of creating such filters in its browser, and also confirmed the talks with Roskomnadzor. However, these talks were put on ice following Opera Software’s acquisition by China’s Qihoo 360 earlier this year, which subsequently led to the closure of Opera’s Russia office. 
Roskomnadzor spokesman Vadim Ampelonsky said: “We are ready to send periodically a list of resources for such a filter at the conclusion of a bilateral agreement.”

We should know the benefit of activating windows by now, especially the aspect of personalization. 
Windows 10 free upgrade product key and activation: 
 
If you upgraded your PC to Windows 10 from a genuine copy of either Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 7, your license will be tied to the hardware you upgrade on, not your Microsoft account, and you won’t get any new product key either. You can verify this using any third-party product key fetching software like ProduKey or The Ultimate PID Checker. They will show you generic product keys. 
 
So what if you want to clean install Windows 10 on the same machine? Yes you can do that by downloading an ISO file, turning it into a USB drive or DVD media and then running the setup for clean install. During install, when Windows setup asks you for product key, simply skip the step and let it complete the installation. Once Windows 10 clean install is complete, your copy of Windows will activate automatically as soon as you connect to Internet. This is because Microsoft knows you clean installed on the same hardware. You can always check your activation status from either Settings (WinKey+I) > Update & security > Activation:

Now if down the road you decide to change the hardware, you will need to call Microsoft support, inform them about the change to get your copy activated.
