4G means “fourth generation”. It brings faster Internet speed much better than what you get on 3G network and it has been in existence for some years now but when was it actually launched for the first time and where?
The first official 4G LTE network in the world was launched towards the end of 2009 .

Fast forward it today where we now have
over 86 4G networks in Africa and over 480 LTE networks in 157 nations around the world, according to stats from Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) . This number is set to increase even more as new telecom operators are diving into 4G LTE Network.

4G LTE AS DATA ONLY TECHNOLOGY
Voice calls cannot be made with 4G LTE as it is a data-only technology but there are two available options for voice calls as detailed below.

✔ Users That Have 3G and 2G Networks

When making a call, the network automatically switches from 4G to 3G/2G and then returns back to 4G as soon as the call is terminated. That's why it's advisable to leave your 4G phone in auto network mode because you might not be able to make calls whenever you use "4G only" mode.
VoLTE Calls
VoLTE call is an internet call just like WhatsApp, FB Messenger and BBM calls. Network operators uses it on 4G network. Note that it's different from regular phone calls as it requires Internet connection.
